Does Submitting Your Sitemap to Google Really Help?

Today I’ll uncover the myth about Sitemap and page indexing. Most of the webmasters says that submitting sitemap to Google will help to index all pages of a site, so in this post I’ll tell you does Sitemap.xml or Sitemap.html helps you to index all your pages of your website or not. Lets start:

No, Google crawls all your web pages through sitemaps but does not guarantee to index all your pages that are in sitemap

To understand this concept deeply, you must know the difference between crawling and indexing.

Crawling means the process in which Google bots gives a visit to your blog and crawls every single page of your site using sitemap.

While crawling if Google bots finds your post unique and helpful, it can store that link in its database and shows it on search results when particular related keyword is searched.

Two points about indexing and crawling:

  • Crawling is said to be successful if bots indexes the URL
  • Indexing is the result of successful crawling

So, always remember that Google crawls all your web pages through sitemap but does not guarantee to index all your pages that are in sitemap.

Why Google does not index all pages that are in sitemap

Have a look at the screenshot below, it is the screenshot of my Google Webmaster Tools.Does Submitting Your Sitemap to Google Really Help?

If you watch this screenshot closely, you will notice that there are total 73 URLs and Google has indexed only 67. Now the question is why Google does not index all pages that are in sitemap?

Below are some reasons why Google does not index URL:

  • The content is not original: The content that is there, is not original and is copied word to word from some other post.
  • Duplicate URL title: If one of the URL title is very much similar to other one, then there exists a chance that Google will not index it.
  • Its not worth to index: According to Google if a particular URL holds less value then it does not index it. Like, the article is very short or the information is outdated.

Some tips to index your page on Google

  • Write original content: As I’ve told many times, Google gives high priority to content and then to other factors, so try to write original content.
  • Get backlinks: If any page of your site is not indexed, try getting backlink from other sites related to your blog’s niche.
  • Avoid Duplicacy: If possible, give different titles for each post, similar looking titles may not be indexed by Google.

Hope that tip was helpful for those wondering how to get your blog listed in google

By following these points, you will be able to get better results and high traffic.

10 Ways to Optimize Your Blog for Subscriber Opt-ins

10 Ways to Optimize Your Blog for Subscriber Opt-insWhile we all know how the money is in the list and all that, when it comes to walking the walk of list building, a lot of bloggers get cold feet.

Bloggers are at such an advantage when it comes to list building – and they don’t even realize it! They are surrounded by all this great content, great readers and incredible social know-how.

All of those characteristics can make for a big list.

But even with all these advantages right at a blogger’s fingertips, list building is one of the last things on a blogger’s mind.

First there’s the tech stuff, then responding to readers and then a host of other things that need attention first.  And unfortunately, building a subscriber list gets pushed back another day and another day until finally it’s neglected.

What can you do to get subscriber opt-ins almost on auto-pilot?

Start with your Blog

The good news is that you can grow your subscriber list fairly quickly just by making some changes on your blog.  Here are 10 ways to target your blog for capturing opt-ins:

  1. Write compelling content every time. Your blog’s content is the catalyst that drives readers to subscribe to your list.  Compelling blog posts are the first place to start when revamping your blog for growing your subscriber list.  If it’s not compelling, it’s not worth publishing. See How to Write an Awesome Blog Entry
  2. Give your readers a reason why they should join your list. Will they get a newsletter?  Will they get a free report?  Whatever you are giving them, make sure to show it off.
  3. Use Testimonials. Testimonials aren’t just for selling items – they are great for free items as well.  Testimonials solidify your expertise on the subject.  They are impactful and show that others have received and enjoyed your product.
  4. Use an opt-in plugin. Besides having an opt-in on the sidebar, an opt-in plugin will allow you to have one at the bottom of your posts and even as a pop-up.  An opt-in plugin can even be customized to match your site.  While there are some nice free ones, the most effective ones usually come at a cost (about $47).  Remember, quality and appearance are top priorities – an unattractive form is useless for converting readers into subscribers.
  5. 10 Ways to Optimize Your Blog for Subscriber Opt-insInstall a Hello Bar. The Hello Bar is a neat little bar that runs across the top of your blog.  You can put whatever message you want on it and then a link to a destination of your choice.  This is a great way to direct readers over to your opt-in.
  6. Create a dedicated subscription page on your blog. Creating a page gives readers a place they can go to see what all your blog offers them for opting-in.  You can showcase the benefits of joining your mailing list and tell them more about the freebie they will receive.
  7. Write a post about it. As a blogger, you produce a lot of content – why not write a post about the free offer you have.  Mention a few things about what makes your newsletter a must-have.  Readers don’t always look for a place to opt-in, sometimes you have to walk them over to it.
  8. Make video posts about your offer. YouTube is the second most widely used search engine.  Make a short video about your free offer and post it on your blog and on you tube.  Watch as the views convert into subscribers.
  9. Show social proof. If you have a high number of Twitter followers or Facebook fans, show this on your blog.  Social proof is very impactful in motivating people to join you.  People like to be part of a group and if yours is a bustling place to be, then they will join in.
  10. And finally, subscribe to other blogs. Call it curiosity.  Call it spying.  Call it whatever you want, but you need to see the process that others use for opt-ins.  This is an important part to mastering your own process.  Check out what they do and model it.

A Subscriber-Friendly Blog Attracts Subscribers…

Your blog is a hub of information on your niche. The second thing after generating traffic is the list.  Using it to grow your subscriber opt-ins not only makes sense but it gives you a dedicated audience for the future.  You may eventually create a product or service, you are already at an advantage by having an instant audience also called your list.

Blog subscribers can be the most loyal and receptive subscribers as they already know, like and trust you.  Keep growing your list and you’ll have one of the greatest assets any business can have.

Profit from parked domains

domain search
Ever imagine what exactly domain parking is and how it’s been done? It is an easy way to earn extra income from a domain name which has no website placed on it yet. In another way, depending on your choice, you can make it an online money making system.

If you choose to park a domain name pending your readiness to set your website up or, you are solely in to domain parking as your main money making business, same approach applies to both.
The first step to take is for you to find a reputable company (site) to park your domain. The site being the intermediary, displays advertisements on the parked site. It is essential to ensure the company you are using is a good one because they will be responsible for organizing the advertisers as well as the issuance of your checks.

Secondly, you will need to decide on your budget for the domain names to buy. Are you going for already existing domains with traffic and popularity which will cost more or, buying new unregistered domain names that are relatively cheap.(for a better idea of domain costs, see how much does a domain cost)

New and unregistered domain names cost about $10 annually while a domain name already in existence with huge traffic are expensive ranging from $100+ to $100,000+. Though, with existing domain name, you are at a better chance of making more money than new unregistered ones. You have to search for an expired domain or buy domain from someone else – when the website is dead or nearly dead.

If you intend to buy an existing domain name from an auction site, it will be wise of you to find a number of highly recommended auction sites and get acquainted with their process.

It’s so easy to find yourself so engaged in the auction process that you will not realize until later, just how much beyond your budget you‘ve spent. This is not a good approach to conduct business hence; you should first decide on your budget, get to know the auction process and ensure to be within your budgeted amount.

Should you need the domain for personal use but not quite ready for its use at the moment, but will love to make some money with it, then you need not worry about auction sites. Getting an unregistered new domain name from any of the registrars online will work perfectly fine and there are quite a number of them to choose from.

Finding a reputable company is important irrespective of the choice you make. You would want a company that will pay a minimum of 85percent of the profit made from ads placed on your parked site to you. You can customize the parked page with some registrars. More so, a company that lets you make the best of your landing page so as to enable you maximize the return on your investment and also get a good click through rate-CTR.

Where you are trapped with a company that denies you control over your parked domain, you might almost regret your decision of parking your domain Domain parking is an exceptional technique in online income generation. Whether your reason for parking the newly bought domain name you are not ready to get on is to make some extra income or for full time earnings, there is quite a lot of prospect for making money. However, same like doing other things, it is important to know what you are up to.

Should You Embed CSS In HTML Or Not?

yes no depends

A question commonly asked especially by newbie web developers is this: “should I embed the CSS in HTML or not?” Unfortunately, like most web development questions, this one doesn’t have a simple YES or NO answer.

The correct answer is “it depends.” There are times when it makes sense to embed CSS in HTML. There are times when it doesn’t. We shall consider all the options in a while. However, let’s begin by defining what embedding.

Embedding CSS

Embedding CSS is basically inserting the CSS styles within the <head> section of a webpage. The styles are included within the opening and closing <style> tags. Here is an example of an embedded CSS (aka an embedded stylesheet):

<style tyle=”text/css”>
font-family: Arial;
color: blue;

Embedding is just one the ways of including CSS on a webpage. The ways others are through adding inline styles, linking external stylesheets and importing external stylesheets. For now, let’s ignore importing and briefly define the other two.

Inline styles add the CSS styling directly into the HTML tag of a page element. It uses the element’s style attribute. For instance

<p style=” font-family: Arial; color:red;” > My short paragraph </p>

Linking attaches an external stylesheet (typically a .css file) to a webpage. It is done by using adding the <link> tag with a rel of stylesheet within the <head> tag. For example:

<link rel=”stylesheet” href=”stles.css”>

When considering whether to Embed CSS in HTML or not, it is important to consider it in comparison with the two options. That is the approach we will take. So, let’s now consider when embedding CSS makes sense, and when it doesn’t.

When You Should Embed

Embedding CSS has one advantage. It enables you to define styles which apply to all elements within a specific webpage. For instance, to style all paragraphs within a page, you simply style the <p> tag within an embedded stylesheet.

This makes it more advantageous than using inline styles. With inline styles, to style all paragraphs within the page, you have to add CSS to each <p> tag. This is not only exhausting, it makes maintaining the webpage extremely difficult.

So, when should you embed CSS? Well, you should embed it when you have styles which apply to a specific webpage only. There two possible scenarios for this:

First, if you are creating only one webpage.

Second, if you want the webpage to look unique from other webpages on the website. For instance, let’s imagine all the <h1> tags within your website look the same. If you want the <h1> tag within your home page to look slightly different from the rest, then it makes sense to include an embedded CSS within the homepage.

When You Should Not Embed

Embedding is disadvantageous for styles which apply to different webpages. It has two distinct disadvantages. First of all, it makes building and maintaining a website boring and stressful.

Let’s imagine you want all the headers and footers in your website to look uniform. Using embedded stylesheets makes no sense at all. It means you have to copy and paste the CSS code to every page. This is repetitive and boring. Also, if you want to change one thing, you have to edit all the pages. This is stressful.

Secondly, embedding CSS can lead to bloated webpages. Remember, every line on a webpage adds a few bytes to the overall size of the webpage. Wepages which contain embedded stylesheets can become bloated and therefore load slowly. This makes them a little less user-friendly.

The cure for such bloating is through linking. Use the HTML link tag to link to the single optimized CSS file. Pages with linked stylesheets tend to be lighter and load faster. This is because of something called caching. Stylesheets which are shared by numerous pages are often stored on the browser (cached). This means that they are loaded from the server only once. As such, subsequent pages which use the stylesheet load much faster (certainly faster than pages with embedded styles).

So, when shouldn’t you embed CSS? Well, when you want to create CSS styles which will be used in numerous pages within a website. In such a case, the best way is to create an external stylesheet, and link it to each of the pages.

Secondly, you shouldn’t embed CSS in HTML if you want to create faster-loading webpages. This is because embedding leads to slow-loading webpages. To create faster-loading webpages, use external stylesheets.

In a nutshell, those are the basics of when to embed the CSS in HTML or not. Hopefully, this clarifies the confusion. However, in case you prefer a straightforward answer, then it is NO – don’t embed the CSS in HTML.

The reason for this is simple: even when creating styles which are specific to a webpage, you can safely use external stylesheets. All you have to do22 is create unique ID or class names to identify the elements within a specific page. As such, if you are to err, then it is better to err on the side of not embedding CSS in HTML.

What this means when discussing with a potential client is that you need to make sure that they understand what your projected timeline is for the project they are asking and why it will take that amount of time. You can explain that you will put in more effort and details than someone else will in a shorter time frame. It is your job to remind them why they want to work with you instead of someone else.

Anchor your prices

When working with clients, many times there is a pricing issue. This can involve many aspects, such as knowing the full scope of the project beforehand, knowing how to plan for any potential hurdles, deciding if you will be paid hourly or on a fixed rate scale, and many other things. The important thing is to have a base anchor rate that you can comfortably offer your clients. From here, you can see if they fall below or above your preferred pay rate. When being reasonable about your prices, there is no reason to undermine yourself by cutting the price simply to gain a client. There are many who will pay for what your work is worth.

The Waterfall Method

It is your go to set up. Then you can fill in whatever steps you believe will be required to get from the beginning to the end of the project. As you complete each step, you move on to the next one in logical order. As you do this, you can keep clients informed of what step you are on and they can see the progression of your work. The downside is that it is not flexible and does not plan for hurdles or setbacks that there may be.

The Anchor Method

This is a popular method for freelancers when getting web design projects done. This is a much more flexible method to work with. It allows you to create mini projects inside of the main one that you are doing for your client. By doing this, you can focus on one area of the site, fill in the client on your progress and proceed to the next area. This allows you to have more freedom when choosing what to do and when to do it.
